What Will Happen During My First Periodontal Appointment?
Your first visit with us is designed to be friendly, welcoming, and stress-free. We aim to make your appointment as comfortable as possible, so you can feel at ease throughout the process. Please plan for approximately 90 minutes for this initial visit. If you’re experiencing pain or have an urgent issue, we’ll make every effort to see you the same day.
During your appointment, we’ll gather a detailed medical and dental history and conduct an oral cancer screening. Based on your needs, we’ll perform a thorough examination, focusing on areas of concern or conducting a comprehensive evaluation. This helps us identify signs of periodontal or peri-implant disease, such as inflammation, bone loss, gum recession, loose teeth, or bite issues, and assess potential dental implant sites. Rest assured, no procedures will be performed during your first visit unless requested.
Before any treatment begins, Dr. Shumaker, Dr. Allen, or Dr. Sands will meet with you to review your diagnosis and treatment plan, ensuring you fully understand the recommendations. Our front desk team will also go over treatment costs, insurance coverage, and scheduling to provide complete transparency. We’re here to answer your questions and ensure you feel confident in your care plan.
